Mankind Takes a Step Up

Growing up in South Orange County there was nothing else to life besides school, friends, and family. I would watch horrifying events on the news that happened worldwide, but at the end of the day they were just horrible events happening on the news. Nothing ever reached me in my Orange County bubble. Despite the fact that nothing terrible happened in my own immediate area, that does not prevent corruption from occurring elsewhere around the world. A prominent issue that has been around for years is the Syrian Civil War.

When the Syrian War started back in 2011, I didn’t think much of it. I was an incoming high school freshman and the Syrian Civil War was the last thing on my mind, but here I am four years later, graduated from high school and starting my first year of college yet the Syrian Civil War is still going on. Not only is it still in process, but it is getting worse. As millions of refugees flee from their homeland they look toward different countries to help take them in. These events illustrate the distress and terror that humans suffer through, however, during this time of need, mankind uses their strength to come together and help each other out.

Not only is the United States helping Syrian refugees, but countries West of Syria are getting together. Countries like Sweden, Turkey, and Germany have said that Syrian refugees can apply for asylum. Not only that, but there have been large amounts of Europeans marching for the safety and the welcoming of the refugees. The amount of community and love that is being spread to these people and countries shows that mankind is not as horrible as it is made out to be these days. I am not saying that nothing horrible is going to happen to these refugees now that countries are letting them apply for asylum. Horrible things have already happened to them and probably will, but it is the act of starting to form a community that is going to make a mark on our pursuit to becoming a better world.
