I stand by my view.

Being a devoted Christian my entire life, I have always been criticized and judged on my views of this topic. However, it is one topic I feel acutely strong about. For years homosexuality has been a touchy, yet hot topic. However, as of recently with the new marriage laws going into effect, the views and opinions on this topic have blown up all around the world. Countless people in my life have tried to sway my view, but so much of what I have heard that I am “supposed to believe” is remarkably one-sided and close-minded. Although, I can understand where they are coming from, there is so much more to the subject than meets the eye or what we are told is “right” because it’s what is “Christian”.

Often times Christians are seen in a bad light due to reputations of usually being closed to and openly against homosexuality. What I often think many people, including Christians, forget is that God has created every single person in His image. The Christian community has heard this over and over, but does it ever really sink in? God says everyone is made in His image, whether black, white, gay, straight, believer, or nonbeliever. As Isaiah 43:7 says, “…for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him. (9) Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled.” Every last person on this earth has been created for a purpose, a divine purpose that only God knows. I don’t know about you, but the thought of being uniquely created by God, in his own personal image, for a designed purpose leaves me in absolute awe.

Despite being created in His image, God calls all people to love, no matter what. 1 John 4:7-8 says “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.” As for me, that resonates deep within myself. For I know that neglecting to show love is a direct disobedience of God. Love to me is the easiest thing a person can do. Even if one does not agree with someone else’s lifestyle or choices, wasting one’s time with hatred is seen as a murder in God’s eyes, who therefore does not have eternal life with Him, according to 1 John 3:15-16. Love is simple!  For who are we to cast judgement upon others? As Mark 12:31 says, “…Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”
