The issue of abortion, while debated by many, is widely accepted throughout much of America today. It is largely believed that it is your body so it is yours to do as you please, but what do our morals and ethics say about this topic? There are to many different worldviews to cover in such a short article, so I will speak from my own point of view: Christianity. I strongly believe that the bible is very clear on the topic of abortion. It says in Jeremiah 1:5 that the Lord knew us and loved us even before He formed us in the womb. The Lord loves his creation, especially mankind, whom in Genesis 1:27 He made in his own image. Furthermore, we are told that our bodies are temples, and if any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy them. The argument still remains from many that we have the right to do without our bodies as we please. If you do not believe in the bible, then 1 Corinthians 3:19 is rendered useless. But then we are left with the issue of murder. Even one who does not believe in the bible and says we can do with our bodies as we please will still be in agreement that murder is wrong. That goes beyond spirituality and into human morality. We as humans inherently know that murder is wrong. Why then is abortion any different? No matter how small, taking a life is murder. There is no justification for this. While okay under the law (the issue of certain laws in our country are a completely different issue) it is morally not okay, as it shouldn’t be. In the end, abortion is murder no matter how we look at it. From a spiritual aspect or not, murder is morally wrong.
